mount: RPC: Authentication error; why = Client credential too wea k

Hello, From what I've found, NetApp filer will refuse mount requests if the source port of that request is less than 1024, or "unprivileged". The problem we have right now is accessing NetApp trough the firewall. So we have a couple of NetApps and Sun servers that are behind port-mapping firewall. I can mount everything from Sun, but when we are trying to mount something from netapp, I get this error message on a client client% mount netapp1:/some_dir mount: RPC: Authentication error; why = Client credential too weak With tcpdump I see how mount requests from client (client.678 -> netap1.sunrpc)are being translated on firewall: firewall1.61128 -> netap1.sunrpc My question is, if there is a way to put netapp in a less secure mode, to allow mount requests from unprivileged ports? Hi, I downloaded the filer mrtg and have been able to get it running on my 840. What I have discovered is that the disk usage is not showing. Anyone have any pointers what the problem might be? Thanks

The "transparent" option was added in MRTG 2.7.1 (according to the CHANGES file in the latest version of MRTG). The version of MRTG included in the NOW download package (which combines MRTG with some Filer-specific configuration things) is older than that, so that explains why it doesn't recognize "transparent". Regarding the disk usage problem, I just tried the NOW version of MRTG with the latest version of ONTAP, and didn't see any problem with the disk usage. I would suggest having the qtree type, the output of wcc -u root, and the reported ACL for the directory you are trying to write to available when you call. Home directory vs. any other directory

Why is it that both Unix and WindowsNT clients can read and write to the Home directory and not to qtrees created by us unless you set up mapping? We have created a qtree on vol0 set up as NTFS with full control local and share permissions granted to Everyone (although later we want to clamp this down). We want one of our UNIX servers to be able to write to a subdirectory inside this qtree, but it will not work. When we try to do a RCP into that subdirectory from the UNIX box as root, we get a permission denied error. What are we missing? BACKUP "APPLIANCE"

The "appliance" term is so overused now, so please grant a little leniency on this one... Is anyone out there using a backup "appliance" to run NDMP-compliant software, such as Veritas or CommVault? I know there are new hardware "appliance" manufacturers springing up almost daily, and some of them are venturing into tuned boxes for specific applications, like e-mail or backup. Am interested in: - rack-mountable, small form factor (1U or 2U) - easy implementation - reliability - ease of administration - low initial cost/TCO - viability of manufacturer (can they support their product? are they going to be there to continue to support it in 3+ years?) Would prefer NT/W2K/W2K Adv Srvr OS, but any Unix/Linux-based product would be okay, too. Also, want to stick with Veritas or CommVault, unless there is some compelling reason to consider another. Data ONTAP 5.3.7 replaces the Data ONTAP 5.3.6H1R2 version. All F840 and F840c have just started to ship with the new Data ONTAP 5.3.7 release.
