Qtrees can be deleted using Windows Explorer, like any other folder. Oracle on NetApp - opinions/experiences requested

Of those who run Oracle on Netapp, how do you feel about it? I recently received an e-mail in which a Sun rep stated they gave up running Oracle on NetApp over a year ago. "Gave up" implies there were issues that were not easily overcome. According to NetApp, Ontap is "really a database file system". The technical specs on Ontap seem to back this up, but many people shy away from the idea. Granted, most of the people knocking the idea are other storage vendors or VAR's but some concern in the admin community I've spoken with revolve around NetApp being NAS and not DAFS or SAN. snapshot management

All, I was wondering if there is a way to tell which files/directories are taking up space in your snapshots? Something like a "du" command that would show only the space used by the snapshot. We have a lot of data that users need to store on the filer, but may not need on a daily basis. RE: Microsoft Cluster Server and Netapps

My 2 Cents since that's about all it's worth ;) We use Legato Cluster to Cluster 2 SQL Server machines using the Netapps Box. I currently have them in Active/Passive. It works great when one server fails the other server takes over. The only caveat w/ the filer is I have to run a RSH script before SQL Server starts to release the lock from the downed machine. Yes SMB=CIFS and the Linux box solution will work in his environment, but if he doesn't have any Unix expertise, what sense does it make to add Linux into his data center? Who would admin the box? In keeping with the NetApp approach to life, simple is good. Stick with what you know -- NT. Try winzip. You could probably write some scripts to largely automate the process.
