Need Serial Console Concentrator

Well we were moving our new Sun 280R's into racks yestarday and one of my Unix team guys went to plug in an *old* P120 Intel box to use as a console device when the P/S went south hard. The spike tripped the main breaker on an OLD OLD OLD PDU which the PC was plugged into. I'm still wondering why the TWO smaller breakers (one on the Sun rack the PC was using power from, and one on the PDU supplying the 30 Amp to the Sun rack) in between didn't trip first. Know what else was on that PDU? The IBM Mainframe. After a 45 min IPL we lost half a days work.... No the NetApp was on two separate house circuits and stayed up. :-) I've been trying to get them to buy me a Console concentrator but I get those blank stares... What is that and what does it do? Why can't you use Telnet? Well I shall make a good case for a concentrator today... Can you all send me your vendor of choice for Concentrators again? I know it came up here just a little while ago. I need to collect vendors and hit them up for this while the issue is hot. Thanks Bob Borowicz

What version of Linux? If its 7.3, then do a search on NOW for redhat 7.3+NFS. Its a known bug,a nd the RH Kernel needs upgrading to fix it properly. Hi all! Is someone having a lot of linux clients mounted a toaster via nfs over tcp? I have a mixed environment of linux, bsd and sunos clients. When I run "netdiag" here the toaster finds all linux hosts not to perform like they should: Average size of NFS TCP packets received from host: foo is 461. This is less than the MTU (1500 bytes) of the interface involved in the data transfer. The maximum segment size being used by TCP for this host is: 1460. APC UPS Monitoring

Dear Toasters, Can anyone please give me some tips on APC-UPS monitoring. I have many APC Smart UPS'es and i use them to protect my File Servers. In the past when we used Sun hardware, we used to use the "Powerchute" software from APC. Now APC needs you to run some sort of Windows-box to be able to monitor all your machines. I heard about apcupsd on another list and gave that a shot and it seems to do a pretty decent job when it comes to linux. To protect my NetApp's, i am planning to use apcupsd on a linux machine and then try and somehow "correctly" use it to shutdown the netapp. I need to be careful about shutting down the netapp ONLY when the power is down and not every time the linux machine needs to be brought down.(so maybe an rc script WONT work) Any ideas ?
