Thanks - couldn't change ownership at all Security tab missing for folder in explorer - ntfschown, cacls, xcacls and doing an rm (as filer root with "priv set advanced" on) all wouldn't work. Did find a workaround - Created at new home folder for the user and copied all his files to it. After he disconnected, I was able to rename the original home folder. The rename did something as I was then able to delete the problem folder afterwards. Never seen this happen before. Monday morning Question - NTFS ACL resetting.

I have a user that has been messing with his NT security in his home folder. He has managed to lock out administrators from access to a specific folder. Now he wants the folder restored - this is do-able from a snapshot but I have to put the contents in a different folder. Problem: I cannot delete the bad folder. I cannot take Ownership of the bad folder. I cannot even view the ACLs on the bad folder. You folks know of a way to remove this folder? We have the volume set to NTFS security. Must be a Monday - cannot seem to think of any methods to remove this folder. Thanks. Airflow in DS14 shelf if disk removed

We had a failure of a disk in our DS14 shelf (attached to an F810) last night. All the automatic shipping of a replacement seems to be working fine. However, if one leaves the failed disk in the shelf while waiting for the replacement, then every few hours one gets a message like Wed Oct 12 10:00:00 BST [raid.fdr.reminder:warning]: Failed Disk 8b.22 Shelf 1 Bay 6 [NETAPP X272_SCHT6073F10 NA06] S/N [3HZ171ZR000073420TXM] is still present in the system and should be removed. But I am concerned that actually removing the disk with its carrier would leave the airflow through the shelf unbalanced. I have compromised by disenganging the disk from the shelf but leaving it sitting in the slot, sticking out just a little. What do others do in in this situation? We had a disk in a ds14 cause a 960 cluster to fail due to noise on the buss. Air flow is not my main concern. Pull the puppy as soon as practical. jc James C. Formatting disks

Greetings Toaster fans, We powered down four F840s last week, reconfigured them with the newest drives we had (it's a long story), and upon reboot, at least three of the drives started experiencing random failures. These failures are enough that ONTAP gripes and marks them as "failed", but I suspect that a low-level format should bring things back to a sane state. Can ONTAP low-level format a 520B/sector disk, or do I need to find something else to do that? If the latter, does anyone have an idea as to what I can use? NDMP Backup fails

Hi all, Anyone out there that can help with the following: We have a R200 Nearstore with a Storagetek L80 library attached trough FC. We use Brightstor Arcserve 11.1 SP1 (latest patches) to backup a volume on the filer. All seems to go fine, until the second tape is requested. In the Arcserve log it says: E8535 01-10-2005 00:15:04 154 1 Failed to receive data from the client agent. (ADDRESS=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxxxxxx), EC=9, COMMAND=0) Information 01-10-2005 00:15:01 154 1 Resume Backup Operation. (CLEANED=0) Information 01-10-2005 00:14:48 Begin cleaning database. Information 01-10-2005 00:14:01 154 1 Next media FRIDAY, ID 9F36, sequence #2 Information 30-09-2005 21:01:07 154 1 Backup Session 1 on Media FRIDAY Information 30-09-2005 21:01:07 154 1 Source Directory: vol\data\.snapshot\hourly.0 After this the backup job obviously fails. We have tried all options given by arcserve but without any success. Also we attached the library using direct attached SCSI but no success. All the configuration options are checked and seem oke.
