Dear all, I have been reading quite a lot in this mailing list, it has been very informative for me, thank you to all! Then comes a question... - Context: up to now we have been using SAN / mini-SANs from various vendors. We are now wondering about starting using NetApp filers for Oracle databases. The easiness of NetApp solutions looks very attractive to use but... - Question: what is your experience for the IO performance (with which NetApp filer type) for Oracle databases? I would be extremly interested to get any measurement (for example in the form of a statspack/AWR report -or the relevant section-) for systems making more than 2000 io requests per second. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you a lot in advance, eric

Sounds like your NT-ADMIN-USER -> root mapping is not working. After logging into the machine you want to use "computer management" from, Map to a drive. Get on the filer and do "cifs sessions" You should see your machine and who you mapped to. If it is not mapping to root, that may be why you cannot manage. Does "root" exist in /etc/password? If not, it needs to be added. simply root::0:1::: is all that is needed. cifs terminate machine-name and then re-connect. Gabriel, Could you elaborate a bit? You mention that the unix machines are a member of domain A - I assume you mean SAMBA member servers? Are these the machines you are trying to use to manage the 'partner'? When you run CIFS setup, are you doing so in NT4 or AD-type domains? Do you have WINS? (With NT4 domains, you must pre-create the computer account, but WINS entries are added automatically - with AD, the computer account is pre-created, but the DNS entries are not added automatically - DDNS is fixed in 7.1 I believe). Are you getting a specific error message when you try to manage it via computer managers? Can you connect to it at all, or is there a permissions problem (a filer administrator account is required to manage the computer via the MMC). FYI - groups cannot be added via MMC...
