Netapp and VMware ESX 3.5

Hello all, Having decided to upgrade our VMware ESX servers to 3.5 from 3.0.2, we have come across a strange problem. On each ESX server we have 3 VSwitches, 2 of them each contain a service console port and VMkernel port. One of Vswitches we have been using for Iscsi in ESX 3.0.2 without any problems. (The first VMkernel port is enabled for Vmotion and is routable) Once we upgraded to 3.5 we have noticed that the filer now shows 2 sessions from the esx host, one from each of the VMkernel ports, however one of the paths is routed and one of the paths is switched. On the ESX host we see each LUN twice, with different paths but with the same canonical path. Does anyone know how to restrict what targets are being sent by the filer based on the interface ? We cannot disable Iscsi on any of the interfaces on the filer. Or does anyone have any other bright ideas ? Cleaning up Messy SW iSCSI connections

Hello Toasters, We have Snapdrive + MS iSCSI on a few boxes. I've noticed that once in awhile the iSCSI connection will become unavailable. If you browse the iSCSI front-end in Snapdrive, it will show unavailable where it would show the IP addresses for target & portal. If you browse the iSCSI control panel, it shows a target that is "reconnecting", but you cannot disconnect it to properly re-establish the connection. Does anyone have a way to properly clean up these connections? Typically disabling iSCSI / Snapdrive services, bouncing the box, and turning them up will let me re-establish, but this is painful. If anyone is wondering, it's Snapdrive 4.2.1 + MS iSCSI 2.05. Thanks all, - Hadrian

As collegues probably pointed out For the moment shelf remove (hence swap) is NOT supported. You may add a new shelf to an existing loop and 2 new drives in that shelf and "disk replace"-then-move-the-spares-to-the-new-shelf-and-repeat-until-the-shelf-is-empty-but-the-two-first-slots, but you will not be able to remove this bad-but-now-empty shelf without downtime. Have you checked that the security style of the qtree is set to NTFS and not unix? Make /vol0/etc a qtree?

Would it make sense if by default the /vol0/etc directory was a qtree? That way you could easily qtree SnapMirror, instead of volume SnapMirror, the etc directories from your production filers to your DR site? --Carl
