find files owned by a particular user? (quota trouble)

Hello All, I have an IT user who's getting quota alerts despite only having a fraction of the default quota in his actual home folder. If I run quota report on his home drive this reports correctly. However, as he was previously a Desktop Tech for another division (they have their home drives on another volume of the same vfiler), a quota report for that volume shows him as right at the limit. I'm pretty sure there are files somewhere on that other division's home volume that he is the owner of. How can I find those files? Preferably without flipping the archive bit and needing a full backup of the whole volume? Hope to hear from you, Randy Rue

translate disk info?

Hi all, I'm trying to translate the disk identity given by the stats show command, into a system ID, and having some difficulty. The command I'm using is:- stats show disk:*:disk_busy which produces info like this:- disk:4C33D0CF:CC7E4D5B:0B46C331:A990D3B1:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:disk_busy:53% And I'd like to translate it into a 1b.24 or similar if possible. ndmpcopy oddities

I performed an ndmpcopy of a filesystem to move it off of a set of DS14 Mk1 shelves (72 GB FC drives, which are now end of support) to a newer set of DS14Mk4 shelves containing 300 GB FC drives. The problem is that after ndmpcopy has finished, the source and destination volume sizes are different: filer*> df -k old_vol Filesystem total used avail capacity Mounted on /vol/old_vol/ 547880960KB 401694484KB 146186476KB 73% /vol/old_vol/ filer*> df -k new_vol Filesystem total used avail capacity Mounted on /vol/new_vol/ 547880960KB 401639832KB 146241128KB 73% /vol/new_vol/ So we're looking at ~50 MB of difference between the two. After doing filesystem checks on both, I found that both contain the same number of files, all of which are equivalent in size. The directory structures are also equivalent, with one exception: one directory is 12KB on the source and 4KB on the destination. Another anomaly is that a 'df' of the filesystems on Solaris 10 show a difference of 16 files between the source and destination. /usr/SAG/db-backup (filer:/vol/new_vol/db-backup):292482200 blocks 19023148 files /mnt/old_vol (filer:/vol/old_vol/db-backup):292372920 blocks 19023132 files So, I know that ndmpcopy is a logical (not physical) copy of the volume, but how is that accounting for more files with fewer blocks? Is it an artifact of fragmentation and metadata changes in WAFL when the data is dumped? I don't have a good explanation for my customer, so I'm hoping someone here will have a quick and easy answer. FAS2240 Twinax Support

Hi All, We're currently in the specification phase of a project using a FAS2240 with 4x 10gbE ports. I'm trying to figure out if the FAS2240 supports "active" twinax from a Brocade VDX 6720. The Brocade ethernet switches seem to be relatively strange that twinax at <5M is active, usually it is only long twinax runs that require that. Anyone out there have a FAS2240 working with a Brocade switch via twinax?

OSSV being abusive of the secondary filer.

Greetings, I'm running OSSV3.0 on some RH5.4 clients to a 6040 NearStore running 8.1 with 10G networking. The process works OK, but when I have an OSSV transfer running, the system load on the filer goes to 100%, it starts behaving very sluggishly, and the regular filer to NearStore backups start running very long, in some cases 2-3 days when they should complete in no more than 6 hours. I've gone through the installation and best practices guide and don't see anything about tuning the secondary. I've looked at sysstat during the load times and disk and network throughput are hardly above 60 MB/s. I know I can try throttling the backup, but it doesn't appear to be a throughput or bottleneck issue. Has anyone else seen this or is there anything I can do to help this? $BACKUP_PRODUCT <-> NetApp integration.

Hello all; We are exploring a couple of different ways to integrate our backup product (CommVault FWIW) with our NetApps (N-Series to be exact). CommVault integrates by leveraging FlexClone and SnapRestore. This operates at the volume level and so we either grab the entire volume or nothing at all. No way to get granularity into specific files or folders. Due to licensing constraints, we can't just grab "everything". This may change in the future, but until then we're looking at several options including setting up dedicated flexvols where VM's which need backups are placed and other flexvols where VM's we won't back up are placed. CV also has integration natively with vCenter, but there are some performance downsides here. How do some of you out there handle this sort of scenario? Thanks, Ray

WORKAROUND: AutoSupport cannot connect to url https://support.netapp.com/

Well, I followed Netapp support's recommendation to add a static route route add 216.240.18.16 <gatewayIP> 1 I post this followup under the category of WORKAROUND since the ASUPs are flowing now, but IMO the root cause is not determined (it should not be necessary to add this static route if the routing table is being obeyed) More info: Our firewall is set to LOG egress (outgoing) connections For the working node I could see the connections made from the default gateway net VIF But, on the problem node, this connection was being attempted from one of the other VIFs (not in the default gateway net) I've asked netapp support to review the fresh ASUPs to see what they might reveal about these apparent routing issues. thanks On Jun 4, 2012, at 11:00 AM, Jayanathan, David wrote: > I am very interested in what you find out. shrinking snap mirror destination volume size does not return space

I'm teaching our storage team to use the System Manager to resize volumes (both source and destination snap mirror volumes) Then one team member noticed this old issue - when the SM src/dest pair volumes are shrunk - the new size is not reflected on the destination - even after a SM update. Last year I wrote about this http://www.vmadmin.info/2011/04/shrinking-snapmirror-destination.html and the solution at the time was to break the SM to have the destination space reclaimed. But is there a better method? Cluster mode - Market vs field

Hi all, I've recently attended an official event where people from NetApp in few words said: "DOT 8 7-mode has done its time, it's over, it has been a great os but It's now time to move and push DOT 8 Cluster Mode, everytime, everywhere..." and this also if with a simple two node HA system, including 2220! What do you think about? Also let us assume that cluster mode can (I add 'theoretically') do all what 7 mode does, don't you think that is quite premature to trumpet this out? Regards,
