Thanks. I did read up a bit on fcinfo and was considering it for my 2003 servers. I've learned that 2008 includes much of the fcinfo functionality already. I don't know about command-line utilities, but if you're familiar with wmi then you can get everything you need, including the firmware (which was what I was looking for). It requires a little more formatting, but the advantage for me is that I don't need to install anything else. We're in the middle of a fairly urgent process to review and remediate our servers' compatibility with onTAP 7.3.3p6. We've got everything we need except HBA firmware levels. Does anyone know of a good WMI query we could run against multiple servers that would return the HBA firmware level? Most of the HBAs are HP-OEM'd QMH2462, running under Window 2003 and 2008R2. I'm looking into SANSurfer, but if I can avoid adding new software to my servers then that would be preferred. Thanks. Disk inventory out of sync.

Greetings, We have a 3140 cluster running 7.3.5.1P4 at one of our sites. There were 2 drive failures (not the same raid group), hot spares kicked in, and the hard drives replaced. Everything seems fine to here. The problem comes in because the partner is showing a disk mismatch. It sees all the drives, but the owner of the replacement drives doesn't in some cases. If I do a "disk show" or an "aggr status -r" on the disk owner, it sees the disks. Any of the "storage show disk <option>" commands on the owner do not show the replacement drives. Will a cluster takeover/giveback wake up the filer or are there any other tricks to get everything on the disk owner to show the drives? Firmware Automation

NetApp states this is "unsupported", so I'm posting this here for ideas. For the last 10 years or so we have used a process to automatically download and push disk and shelf firmware to the filers. The process begins with a wget to grab the all.tar file: wget --http-user=userid --http-passwd=password -P /path/to/put/it http://download.netapp.com/download/tools/diskfw/bin/all.gz Now with the recent changes on the support site this year, that method no longer works. I tracked down the new location and tried this: wget --http-user=userid --http-passwd=password -P /path/to/put/it http://support.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/diskfw/bin/all.gz but it fails, even with a few other flags I tried, the best I could get was a login.html file downloaded. So it's clear that Netapp is redirecting the request for authentication. I looked into wget a further and tried to login, grab the cookies, save them to a file and then use that authentication to grab the file, no luck there either. wget --no-check-certificate --keep-session-cookies --save-cookies cookies.txt --post-data 'user=userid&password=password&postpreservationdata=""' https://login.netapp.com/oamforms/login.html wget --no-check-certificate --load-cookies cookies.txt -P /path/to/put/it http://support.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/diskfw/bin/all.gz So that's my dilemma. I'm looking for ideas, work arounds, other implementations, anything so I can automate the download of the all.gz and the all_shelf_fw.tar files. >From there my process will continue as before. Host based Lun snapshots (snapdrive) with OnCommand or Protection Manager

Anyone worked out how to do Host based lun snapshots (using snapdrive) with OnCommand or Protection Manager and policies ? It seems utterly amazing you have to write a batch file and call sdcli and then setup a scheduled tasks to take snapshots with snapdrive. We have a lot of luns mapped to hosts and its going to get very messy with all these batch files running. AutoSupport cannot connect to url https://support.netapp.com/

One of the nodes in this cluster is not able to connect to netapp to post its ASUP since we updated to 8.1 GA 40 days ago: AutoSupport (HA Group Notification from na04 (USER_TRIGGERED (COMPLETE:completedShelfFWupdate)) INFO) cannot connect to url https://support.netapp.com/put/AsupPut/ [na04:asup.post.retry:info]: AutoSupport message (HA Group Notification from na04 (PERFORMANCE DATA) INFO) was not posted to NetApp for host (0). The system will retry later to post the message User triggered also fails to post to netapp.support.com (although we receive the emails internally): Jun 4 10:20:03 [na04:asup.post.host:info]: AutoSupport (HA Group Notification from na04 (USER_TRIGGERED (testing)) INFO) cannot connect to url https://support.netapp.com/put/AsupPut I compared options auto output on both nodes and they are the same DNS settings are the same - and functional na04*> ping www.netapp.com a878.b.akamai.net is alive Any other areas to check? thanks
