Netapp and VMware... It's all so confusing!

So, say for example, I want to virtualize an Exchange server. Lets also say that I want to manage it via Snapdrive and SME. Lets also say, just for the heck of it, that I want both the new front-engined Acura NSX as well as the Porsche RC3. The cars aside, I would have to run iSCSI from within the VM, install and use Snapdrive from within the VM to provision LUNs, install Exchange and then use SME? It seems kind of silly to use iSCSI from within a VM if the ESX box were fiber attached to the Filer, just to be able to use Snapdrive and SME, no? I would love to be able to use the features of SD and SME within a completely virtual environment and am wondering what some real world implementations other VMware/Netapp customers are running. Do you run storage for the databases and logs in VMDK's and manage snapshots and backups from a VMware virtual machine perspective or do you manage them as iSCSI LUNs and use SD and SME? Metadata work, mostly - directory crawls, access checks, things like that (in CIFS). In NFS, ACCESS, READDIR, READDIR+ , stuff like that. I think you can use 'cifs top -s ops' to see the busiest clients hitting the system. If the ones at the top have very high ops, but not many reads/writes, those could be your guys. That said, it's all about latency. If it isn't driving latency higher, shouldn't be a concern. Netapp SDK -- HTTP Port 1023

Hi toasters, we are in the need to use the netapp SDK through a firewall. While trying this we found out, that the SDK uses TCP Port 1023 as the source port. Sadly our firewall defines HTTP source-ports from 1024-upward and therefore denies the transit :( Has anybody came across this issue and has an idea if this behavior can be changed? Errors every second in my audit log after starting to monitor with Catcti/SDK

We've recently started using Cacti and the Ontap SDK to monitor our filer's performance but something is not working properly, I see the following line 2-3 times a second in the Audit Log: Mon Jun 22 12:25:51 EDT [array02: HTTPPool04:debug]: root:AUTH:error:Login failed for user root from IP 10.1.17.8. reason "User not authenticated" Currently it's configured to use the root account, once we figure out what's wrong we'll create a service acount before moving the monitoring to production. However, my only question is, why this message started appearing on my console all of a sudden? even though the filer was upgraded to its current version of ONTAP almost an year ago. Hello All, I have been getting this warning message on the console since past 4 days. Have you seen this before by any chance? I am running 7.2.3 on a 3020 and no changes were made in the recent past, this message starting appearing all of a sudden.
