Ndmpcopy v vol copy

We are adding a shelf of faster disks onto our existing FAS270C. We want to copy our Oracle database volume from the existing disk to the new shelf. We have considered usig either ndmpcopy or vol copy. Is there a performance Enhancement of one over the other, or is there a better method? Fwd: Quota Management

Hi all, Is it possible to have quota soft limit warning mailed to the respective user or administrator from a filer when they are reached? If not, is there any tool available for doing this? The user only gets an error when he/she exceeds the hard limit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jody

NDMP speed measured in the field

All, Just curious if the people here in this distribution list who are using NDMP backups can give me their NetApp config (filer type & number of disks) and their actual backup throughput. If it's possible also the number and drive types connected and used backup software. how to "move" an existing snapmirror to new network interfaces?

I have lots of existing q-tree snapmirrrors of the form: srcfiler:/vol/volM/qtreeX destfiler:/vol/volN/qtreeY "srcfiler" (DNS name) is the e11 interface on srcfiler "destfiler" (DNS name) is the e9a interface on destfiler We just built a "dedicated snapmirror/backup" network and added the following: "srcfiler-backup" (DNS name) is the e0 inteface on srcfiler "destfiler-backup" (DNS name) is the e11a interface on destfiler Subsequent 'snapmirror update -S ...' commands (we don't use snapmirror.conf) still use the non "-backup" network links. I'm not seeing the counters on the "-backup" links increment via the `ifstat` command. The $64,000 question: --------------------- How do I "move" these snapmirrors to the "-backup" network links...without, of course, re-initializing them? I'm expecting, in the end, to see `snapmirror status` give back to me: srcfiler-backup:/vol/volM/qtreeX destfiler-backup:/vol/volN/qtreeY and see the counters on e0 on srcfiler and e11a on destfiler increment. I talked with a professional services guy who does this regularly. He said always do the disk fw first the night before or some amount of time before. This was evident by his knowledge up front that it takes 2.5 seconds per drive. In fact, the full upgrade guide mentions it specifically: 7.2 upgrade guide, page 84 3. Verify whether you need to update disk or disk shelf firmware. Note: You should ensure that any required disk firmware and disk shelf firmware updates have completed before beginning a nondisruptive upgrade. 7.0.6 to 7.2.5.1 upgrade

Has anyone experienced an issue going from 7.0.6 to 7.2.5.1. I did an upgrade on my 940 cluster and when I attempted takeover the takeover never succeeded. The first head decided to reboot (without me running halt) but the second head never completed the takeover. After that it complained about version mismatch.

CIFS UNC share authentication delay

We are experiencing a vexing delay when users on non-domain-joined Windows workstations attempt to connect to shares on our filers using a UNC share path. For example, if a user goes to start->run on Windows XP and enters the path "\\fileserver\sharename", they will see a delay ranging from two to ten minutes before they get an authentication prompt. Once authenticated to the server, there are no performance problems. If connecting using named credentials (either using the GUI "map network drive", or a command line "net use" command), this delay does not occur. We did an awful lot of troubleshooting. Eventually we turned on cifs login tracing (options cifs.trace_login on) and found the following revealing entry in our logs: toast: auth.trace.authenticateUser.loginTraceMsg:info]: AUTH: Delaying the response by 5 seconds due to continuous failed login attempts by user administrator of domain <WORKSTATION> from client machine <IP Address>. It appears that the Windows client is generating more login attempts than the filer thinks should be allowed! However, I have no ability to change the behavior of unmanaged Windows workstations, so I need to tune this from the server side. Does anyone know how to change the number of consecutive login failures allowed by the filer? What about changing duration of the delay? I have a case open with NetApp on this one, but they have not been able to provide answers so far. -Greg Mackinnon University of Vermont

flexvol disk stats

Hi, I need to find disk statistics for an environment that uses flexvols. I used to run "pvstats" written by Ben Swartzlander <bswartz(a)netapp.com>but that does not work in an flexvol environment. I need something similar to that for be able to tell management where we stand. I would appreciate to hear from you if you have something similar or if you perhaps modified Ben's code to work in an flexvol environment and you're willing to share.
