So, say for example, I want to virtualize an Exchange server. Lets also say that I want to manage it via Snapdrive and SME. Lets also say, just for the heck of it, that I want both the new front-engined Acura NSX as well as the Porsche RC3. The cars aside, I would have to run iSCSI from within the VM, install and use Snapdrive from within the VM to provision LUNs, install Exchange and then use SME? Failed shelf

Hello, We have just been informed by NetApp that we have a failed shelf and a new shelf is on the way. I forgot to ask before I got off the phone if we would be able to use our trial license of SnapMirror to allow us to do this shelf swap over without downtime? This is a FC shelf and we only have enough space to mirror the volumes on to a SATA shelf. Will this work or am I mad? Take care.

SnapDrive makes an API call to expand the NTFS partition and file system within it. (It grows the LUN first.) This can be done with Exchange running. We demo this all the time. Happy holidays!! autosupport stops functioning

anyone else have this happen? suddenly one of our filers stops generating autosupport messages. both autosupport.enable and autosupport.support.enable are on. if i generate a test email with the autosupport.doit option nothing happens. not even a failed message, the console just sits there as if i never generated one. needless to say neither netapp or our email server gets anything from this filer and nothing hits the console about generating any autosupport emails.

Authentication Error

Hi, I am interested in accessing /vol/vol0 from my windows machine and from Linux Machine too. When I try to connect it the following error message appeared "The account is not authorized to log in from this station". On Linux machine I can mount /vol/vol0, but it does allow me to go into mounted directory. My machine is also an administration host of NetApp. Please help. We have a fairly heavily loaded FAS960c pair that contains storage for our University wide email system. Most of the email storage is NFS files with the email servers running Unix and Communigate Pro. We are transitioning to MS Exchange, so these filers also have some FC SAN LUNs for our emerging Exchange service. Aggr's at 100% with FlexVols

Hi, I know when traditional vols are in use, you don't want to let them get too close to full because performance will be affected. But what about using FlexVols and Aggrs ? I have a few Aggrs that are at 100%. But the FlexVols in those Aggrs are mostly under 50%. I had a NetApp support person tell me that its bad to have Aggrs at 100%, even if the FlexVols are not full. Weird CIFS problem

I'm domain admin, and I'm accessing a share on my filer \\filer1\tdrive<file://filer1/tdrive>(/vol/vol0/tdrive). It is a seperate qtree, the only perms on the share are everyone/ full control. I even added a domain/administrator full control entry. I can see the top level of sub-dirs, bt I cannot go any deeper. I've stumbled across a problem we're having accessing filer hosted CIFS shares from Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.1. The Leopard boxes I've tried this on are all bound to our Win2k3 Active Directory. If you log into Leopard with your domain credentials and try to access a share on a filer(this happens on all of our filers and all are at 7.x and above), you will be prompted for your password. Hello all, I have been searching for a while on the NOW site and the only reference I can find about what the timeout settings for iSCSI should be are in "iSCSI SUSE(R) Linux(R) Host Utilities 3.1 for Native OS Setup Guide". In that document it says the configuration value node.session.timeo.replacement_timeout should be set to 5 however the default it 120. Hello, I am starting to thin provision LUNs (lun set reservation disable) in order to start using A-SIS on some large (1TB) volumes. I tried putting ssh V1 and V2 public keys in /etc/sshd/authorized_keys /etc/sshd/authorized_keys2 /etc/sshd/root/.ssh/authorized_keys /etc/sshd/root/.ssh/authorized_keys2 But none of that worked. Netapp and VMware ESX 3.5

Hello all, Having decided to upgrade our VMware ESX servers to 3.5 from 3.0.2, we have come across a strange problem. On each ESX server we have 3 VSwitches, 2 of them each contain a service console port and VMkernel port. One of Vswitches we have been using for Iscsi in ESX 3.0.2 without any problems. Hello Toasters, We have Snapdrive + MS iSCSI on a few boxes. I've noticed that once in awhile the iSCSI connection will become unavailable. If you browse the iSCSI front-end in Snapdrive, it will show unavailable where it would show the IP addresses for target & portal. If you browse the iSCSI control panel, it shows a target that is "reconnecting", but you cannot disconnect it to properly re-establish the connection. You may add a new shelf to an existing loop and 2 new drives in that shelf and "disk replace"-then-move-the-spares-to-the-new-shelf-and-repeat-until-the-shelf-is-empty-but-the-two-first-slots, but you will not be able to remove this bad-but-now-empty shelf without downtime. Would it make sense if by default the /vol0/etc directory was a qtree? That way you could easily qtree SnapMirror, instead of volume SnapMirror, the etc directories from your production filers to your DR site? --Carl
