How did a shelf hang result in 10 failed drives? And how did you avoid a double disk failure with that many failures? We had a flakey ESH eliminate the secondary path to about 5 drives awhile ago, but Netapp said there was a way to fix it (involving downtime). We were lucky, 4 of them were on new vols, so we just destroyed the vols and reseated the drives, no downtime or rebuilds required. Ontap 6.5 ?

Simon, I don't know if you can directly increase the no. of simultaneous reconstructs. However, you may be able to improve the speed marginally by using the raid.reconstruct.perf_impact option and setting to high. Ben, Looks good. What is RRD graph? Have you thought of making this to show sysstat output or even statit output so we can get instanteous feel for the system performance down to volume level? But, the most interesting and important part for me is the DF output. Using the DF SNMP table I can parse it up and display how I like, so I display volumes in nice round numbers (using 1024 insteal of 1000) for easy reading and a little bar graph that lets you see volume usage in an instant. Also, the last line of the DF table is a "Total" line. This simply adds up the data from all the non-snapshot volumes and displays this information like anything else. It's kinda nifty to be able to take 1 look and confidently say "We're using X% of! the filers capacity" rather than just approximating off the top of your head. Anyway, this is the kind of tool I want. I need to clean up the source so it's pretty and then I'll GPL it. Anyone interested or what to make suggestions? I should note that I'm actually supplimenting this page you see with extra data at the bottom as supplied by RRD graphs and such... however that stuff is all system specific whereas my current script as demostrated works on any NetApp Filer (I guess NetCache too). The colors and stuff need tweeking, but you get the general idea. benr.

I think 6.5.2P6 is the latest. If you can, go straight to it. Filer Head Images

Greetings Toasters. I've finally given up on searching and started writting the simplified monitoring app that I'd like. I thought a nifty feature would be to include an image of the head itself (stock photo of course) to spiff things up a bit. Does anyone know where I can find stock photos of the older filers? (740, 760, 840, etc) NetApp provides images of current filers http://www.netapp.com/news/pressroom/products/ but not the older ones. Thanx. benr.

Database MS Access can not be repaired

Hi All, I not been able to repair database Microsoft Access on Filer from CIFS clients. I got too much data corruption. Oplock is disabled on Filer FAS270 with 6.5.1R1 Could someone help me. Thanks

NFS export from within a CIFS share

Had an interesting one today: We created a CIFS share called "public" to create a department wide storage area for a project we've got going on. A web developer was editing HTML in a subfolder there and wanted it published for users to view. So I NFS mounted it to a test (SUN) webserver exporting it on the filer as: /vol/sysvol0/public/html_files My Unix guy who config'd Apache on the test webserver created a local user "www" to run Apache. The filer complained when you hit the webpage generating reads of the "html_files" dir by Apache saying UID 80 NOT MAPPED. (UID 80 is the www users UID on the webserver). The filer was expecting CIFS users athentication of an NFS mount! So you can't NFS export CIFS share folders I found out...!!!??? I ended up creating a (mixed) qtree which is a CIFS share *and* NFS mount and all is fine.... I thought that was an interesting problem and thought I'd share it.... -Rob
