Have you got spares on the system at the moment? (sysconfig -r) I haven't used an F87, but I assume that if you have a spare drive bay, all you need to do is slot a drive in and the filer will pick it up. The console should output something to you saying the new disk is detected. That said, I have not used anything less than 6.1.2, so things could be different for earlier ONTAP and filer versions. iSCSI Buzz

I've been listening to all the iSCSI buzz with NetApp in the news. From what I've gathered all you need is OnTAP 6.4 and a $700 adapter for the host server. Filer View works fine. Our NT admins use it all the time (You know the people that can only point and click!) Only last week I have created and destroyed some volumes during a filer upgrade, no problems, much better than earlier NetApp Releases versions. Hi, Yes I've used it. I have created and destroyed some volumes. One problem I've had is changing a snapmirrored volume into a live volume via filer view without using the command line. I also try and use DFM to run commands. It allows our ops bridge a view of what is happening on the filers. You might consider using MultiStore to create multiple virtual servers. Then you could assign different administrators to just the shares you want. We have a situation where administrators are requesting the ability to kick users out of open files. Normally this is done through server manager or through Win2k computer management, however unless the users are added to the power users group on the filer, they are unable to view the files in use (they get an access denied). I do not want to give our entire administrative staff power user access on our filer. In a perfect world I would be able to have the administrators only be able to manage the shares they are responsible. Every solution I have found so far has been an all or nothing solution. I know there are some products, such as Tivoli, but I am looking for other creative solutions to my problem. Thanks Drew

Ontap 6.4 LDAP + CIFS + SAMBA ?

Hi I've installed Ontap 6.4 that now support LDAP auth with openldap :-) Now the new challenge ... We use Samba servers to let windows clients access to their data zone. Actually windows clients use Samba (with LDAP) servers as PDC Home directories are actually NFS mounted from Samba servers. (that is no good I know) What I would like to do from a windows client is : 1 - Use Samba server as PDC 2 - Connect to the filer directly using CIFS after authentication Is it possible ????
