Hello All, I need a little advise on what this all means below in regards to the FC LINK STATS for my F760. I'm running DOT 6.2.1 with 1 FC8 drive shelve with 7 18GB drives. I'm not to sure if this is the beginning of a failed disk or what. FC Actions (was RE: FC Link Stats)

Toasters, This might be a descent time to ask. What actions are taken to resolve "Link Failure" and "Loss of Sync". Both Underruns and Invalid CRCs aren't really a concern since it should generate a resend, or at work a loop reset to clear any blockage. However, I'm curious what happened after a Link Failure and Loss of Sync. On most systems I'd assume this would result in a LIP. I suppose you could respond to a Link Failure with a full loop reset (rather than LIP) but I'm not sure how their being handled. Is there comeone familiar enought with FC on the Filers to comment on which actions are taken to resolve each of these states at the FC level? Thank You. Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I've already tried without much luck. I thought perhaps more users on this list were sucessful in getting something other than Windows to work as a PDC. Its looking more and more like they are just rumors. Everything Ive heard so far starts with, "I haven't tried this but..." or "you should be able to...". Is there anyone at all with some personal experience (or even second hand experience) on if this even works? At first glance it seems like a one-way account migration tool rather than a syncing mechanism. I would need to sync in either direction. Is anyone doing anything using LDAP for authentication? Any chance netapp is woring on that as an option rather than a PDC. I understand its not supported. It was my belief that someone on the toasters list was able to get it to work something UNIX. Actually the latest version of samba is like 99% of the way there. I got my filer talking to it and passing authentication requests from clients to the samba box. it looks like I just have a permissions issue right now. I was hoping there would be some netapp enineers on here that can *unofficially* offer some tips. UDP v. TCP

Kit is 810 filer 12x72GB, 2xSun E250 each connected on private fibre 1GB link, legato Networker to DLT7000 drives attached to the Sun (no NDMP). We've moved on from dotHill SANnet. There's been some discussion I've been following about fast read/slow write (or the reverse). We had our first filer installed in March and whilst performance was OK, backup of 250GB was taking 18 hours or more. Suppliers and NetApp had configured for improved performance but to no effect. Thanks to the thoughts on the list we changed yesterday from UDP to TCP and backup dropped to 5 hours - the expected performance. Daft buggers had optimised performance across the fibre for TCP and not UDP! So all the tuning effort done by the engineers had had no effect. FWIW script is appended for anyone's interest. We're going to get UDP optimised now, because of the reduced overhead - as it is a point to point connection so only the filer and the server are on the fibre. So many many thanks to the list - saved our bacon! mrtg and linux

Hi all, I've tried to install mrtg on linux box to monitor filer, but *.gif file doesn't appear in the directory. DAFS and DDA

Does anybody in Toasterland have any real-world experience with DAFS and the DAFS Database Accelerator (DDA)? I have a slew of documentation, and I've put together a brief educational overview for a local Unix SIG meeting coming up soon. Would like to: - be able to assert that not only is it available today, but folks are actually using it (without naming names, of course) - understand and present any "gotchas" that may exist - incorporate other real world insights, comparisons versus other db storage architectures, etc. into my presentation Happy to receive any feedback at all either on- or off-list! Samba 2.2.3a PDC

Im sorry if this topic has been beaten to death but searching the archive for weeks I cannot find the info I need. Has anyone successfully gotten Samba 2.2.3a to work as a PDC for OnTAP 6.1.2D3. Or rather, what recent versions of samba and ontap work? I can only find mention of samba pdc dated 1999...was hoping for something a bit more recent. My 2 pence: Let everyone know well in advance and schedule a time when everything front end can be shut down/disconnected. It's more painful and requires more scheduling but it reduces any risk of lost data/corruption if anyone is in the middle of an operations. Remember to check is any backups are still running, we got caught on this last week and took 1/2 hour to check that that all the TSM sessions had been disconnected. Disable autosupport before you reboot the filer each time, and check if it renables after booting. Saves a lot of calls and open support cases from NetApp support.
