very serious NFS bug

Hi, I came across the following bug. NFS writes from Redhat 7.3 client result in filer giving a lot of RPC timeouts for all other clients on the network. Here's a link describing what's known about this bug so far: http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=65069 With default wsize value of 15K, tcpdump shows a lot of fragmentation packets. While it's obvious that it's RedHat 7.3 bug, I am still wondering why NFS v3 is vulnerable to such sort of DoS attack. On related note, I looked at registry file on the file, and I found these entries: options.nfs.tcp.recvwindowsize=26280 options.nfs.tcp.xfersize=32768 options.nfs.udp.xfersize=32768 Is the 1st one only applicable to NFS over TCP? Is the last one read-only? Thanks Igor

It's possible to access the filer from a dos 6.22 boot floppy, but i guess your problem is related to the lan manager version on your boot floppy, it should be at least lan manager ver 2.2c, i had the same problem as you are experiencing now i solved it with downloading boot floppies from either www.bootdisk.com or www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/network/ then i got a lan manger version that was working ok with the filer. Since you indicated that you have a 600GB vol0 on an F740, that may mean that you've already maxed out on capacity (depending on what you meant by 600GB -- raw/useable?; any other volumes?). Therefore, you may have to do the head swap first and then create the new vol0 once you're up and running on the F840. head swap

i am thinking about swapping out a 740 for an 840 head. The 740 has a big vol0 (600G) that i would like to rename to something else in the process and dedicate a 2 disk RAID set to vol0 on the new head with a new 6.1 install. is it a simple matter of configuring the new vol0 on the new head and plugging in the old vol0 and rebooting? or do i need to do some sort of rename and wipe out the old OS somehow. never having done a head swap before i would appreciate any pointers anyone could give me. thanks roger

ip.tcp.sack.enable spontaneously toggling in 6.2 ?

I have an F740 running ONTAP 6.2. Something odd seems to be happening to the value of "options ip.tcp.sack.enable" - it toggles spontaneously between "off" and "on" once an hour for no apparent reason! This seems to happen at the same time that /etc/registry is rewritten with a new "state.config.refresh.last" value. Can anyone else running 6.2 or 6.2R1 confirm that they see the same effect? [ For amusement only: I run a weekly job to check that all the options are what I expect and to report any differences. I noticed an oddity (now explained by the above) when I updated the reference values after upgrading 6.2 over 6 weeks ago, but didn't investigate at the time. The jobs always run at the same time of day, and so there have been an even number of toggles between them ... but the "once an hour" turns out to be more like "one hour plus one second", and the slow drift has apparently now caused there to be an odd number of toggles during the last week!
