How many of you out there are using SQL 7.0 SP3 under Win2K on a Filer? What series of Filer do you have and what have your performance statistics looked like compared to local attached storage. Has anyone out there been able to compare statistics between the 700 and 800 series Filers using SQL databases? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Is html a new feature? None of my autosupport emails are in html. I don't usually read them anyway, opting instead for a script that basically emails me the message files daily. autosupport full of junk

How do others feel about the junk in autosupport? I see the entire messages file reproduced to three times the size just to put it into html format; why don't they run the script to put it into html when they want it and at NetApp instead of cluttering MY weekly reports? These FC stats can be produced once a year when there is a problem to analyze. The disk list doesn't have to be reproduced any more often than when there is change to the list. I think it is unnecessarily large and wading thru it to look for a current interesting event would be easier without it. I have been asking for options to autosupport with the customer support for over a year. I am occasionally told it will be in a future release as yet un-named. ndmpcopy level i problems

I am having problems doing an imcremental ndmp copy from one filer to another. The first level i goes fine. The second one a few days later gives this error: filer1: CONNECT: Connection established. filer2: CONNECT: Connection established. filer1: LOG: DUMP: filer1: LOG: creating "/vol/vol0/../snapshot_for_backup.828" snapshot. filer2: LOG: RESTORE: filer2: LOG: Could not create /vol/volhome1/etc/tmp/restore.clrimap.184.time_996070293.pid_23341776 filer2: LOG: RESTORE: filer2: LOG: Cannot restart restore without a dumpmap. filer2: LOG: RESTORE: filer2: LOG: RESTORE IS ABORTED filer2: Connection halted: HALT: Internal error! It appears that in the etc/tmp dirs on the target filer volumes there should be files created after each ndmpcopy called dump.dirlist and dump.bitmap but on some of the target volumes they not there. some target volumes do have these files and those volumes will do incremental copies. All initial copies completed successfully with no errors. Does anyone have any ideas why these files were not created?? The command I am using for both is: ndmpcopy -level i filer1:/vol/vol0/ filer2:/vol/volhome1/users2/

RE: disk scrub time

>From the looks of your syslog messages, it appears that you are running 6.x. The good news here is that when the time expires under 6.x, the disk scrub picks up at that point on the next disk scrub. So you may not be scrubbing every sector every week, but you will be scrubbing every sector every 2 or 3 weeks. Just some info to add to your options. Virus Scanning

For Data ONTAP 6.0 and above, you'll need SecureAdmin 2.1.1. It's not configurable, it's not even a filer-specific thing. Those .nfs files are being created because some other process out there is currently accessing the file that you asked to be deleted. That's what causes .nfs files. It's part of the NFS spec to do so. If they are still around after the client is no longer accessing the file, then the client did not delete them which again, according to the spec, it the client's responsibility. At that point, you can delete them manually. domain controller authentication algorithm

What causes a filer to terminate and then reconnect to a domain controller? For instance: Mon Jul 2 21:36:10 EDT [rc:info]: Connection with DC \\DC1 terminated Mon Jul 2 21:37:39 EDT [CIFSAdmin:info]: Connection with DC \\DC2 established In addition, the service reporting either a termination or establishment seems to vary.
