Remote Dump error

Hi all, In first, Sorry to I am poor at English. One of our custmer use F720 running with ONTAP5.3.2D4. They tried to backup to DLT7000 it connected to Sun by remote dump command. However,Dump dose not work with few messsages from NetApp. DLT7000 dose work locally by ufsdump command. Please let me know, any infomations. More details as following: Environments: NetApp F720 running ONTAP5.3.2D4 E450(SUN) with Solaris2.6 or 7 DLT7000 connected to E450 Symptoms: on NetApp console: NetApp> dump 0fub E450:/dev/rmt/0 63 /home E450: premature EOF DUMP: Remote tape cannot be initialized. No, FilerView does not require Windows. Through 5.x FilerView is applet based. It should, as you say, work on any java-compliant browser. In practice it displays somewhat more consistently on Windows boxes (relative to *nix say) due to font mapping issues. Starting in 6.x we've been phasing out some of the applets in favor of HTML and some Javascript. Does FilerView really require a Windows box? Data ONTAP 6.1 supports Windows 2000 Authentication via Kerberos, plus the things, such as Share publication and Access Control, that worked under NT 4.0. Well, most PC hardware vendors offer remote access cards of some type. Compaq offers something like that (Remote Insight, I think it's called), for example. I don't admin the windows stuff myself, but that's what our Windows admins use for that sort of thing. Also, it's not out yet, but Raritan's TeleReach box may become very handy for that sort of thing. We currently use Raritan's Paragon switches to get consoles for a large host of platforms: Sun, IBM, HP, SGI, PC, Netapp, etc. It's nice to have a single console switch that controls all of our devices, rather than one device for the UNIX consoles, another device for the PC consoles, etc. My goal is that when an engineer walks into one of our labs, he can sit at any console to control any machine. (It's also nice to access each platform through its native console. Figuring out the serial pinouts for each vendor can be quite the pain.) If the TeleReach service works as advertised, it would make everything on the Paragon switch available over IP. Unfortunately, it sounds like it will utilize a proprietary windows-based client. Also how good the performance is remains to be seen. It's a step in the right direction though, I think. As for FilerView, I use it a lot and like it, but in a serious downtime situation, you may a) have problems with the network in the first place which would make FilerView useless, and b) you're probably in a hurry and while I like Filerview it is a bit slow to load. What are these files in /etc/oldmaps?

We upgraded one of our F740's from 5.3.7R1 to 6.0.1R3 a week ago. It went very smoothly, but there are a few things still puzzling me. Here is one of them... Every time a dump command is run, at completion a new file appears in the filer's /etc, with a name like /etc/oldmaps/bkp/A_home1/3abbe75d | | | \ This is the time(2) of the dump in hex | \ This is the "n" key from the dump command Peeking at /etc/tmp while dump is running, and comparing inode numbers, it seems that these files are what was /etc/tmp/dump_all.bitmap.[n]. (There are several other files in /etc/tmp, but this seems to be the only one that is saved.) Its size appears to be 1 bit per inode in the volume being dumped, plus a little. Are these files going to accumulate for ever? None have disappeared as yet, but maybe they will in due course... And what is their purpose in life?
