Removing old volume to create spare

I have some old filers which aren't worth putting on maintanence which I use for old reference data. They are 330s with 4 gig disks. I have a shelf of old 4 gig disks which has a volume on it. I'd like to make all 7 of those disks spares for the 330s. This shelf is on a 220. I brought it up and tried to destroy the volume but am unable to destroy the root volume, since it can't be brought offline. Anyone know the correct procedure to do this, and is destroying the volume adequate for making these disks spares? Or alternately, as disks fail in the 330s I can put single 4 gigs in to replace them. When I've done this in the past, though, the volume on the single disk was seen and brought online in a broken state, if I remember correctly. What would the correct procedure to take a single disk like this with data on it and make it into a hot spare on? Thanks, Justin Acklin Unix Systems Administrator Philips STB

Looks like your switch is in auto negotiate mode. Hard code the switch port to 100Mbs, full duplex. Run 'ifstat -z e3a' to reset your interface counters and look at it again. Below is the out put from ifstat. I'm wondering what could be causing the errors in both the TRANSMIT and RECEIVE sections, and why the Underflow in the TRANSMIT section. Could(are) the errors and Underflows in the TRANSMIT section be related? The hardware guide for your filer (downloadable from NOW) defines the pins on the console port, and the required terminal settings. The minimal required pins are: Pin 2 RxD Pin 3 TxD pin 5 Ground You need to set your emulator to 9600, 8 bits, no parity, XON/XOFF (or no flow control). As I type this, we are plugging in the cables for the new systems. What's the schedule? In the next two days, we will perform internal/external FTP tests. After almost two years without a toaster I've finally come out of the wilderness and am once again the proud "owner" (ok, admin) of a nice shiny new toaster. Pity they're not as shiny as they used to be in the Good Ol' Days :( I'm trying to connect this beastie to a console server. Specifically a Linux box with a Cyclades Ze multiport serial card. The Cyclades presents its ports using an expansion box with RJ45 female ports. I haven't been able to get this to talk to the toaster's console port :( I've tried various combinations of straight-through and null-modem adaptors with standard ethernet and roll-over drop cables with no joy. Can anybody point me in the direction of the pinouts I need in a RJ45 - DB-9 adaptor that will work with a roll-over drop cable? For reference, I've got the Cyclades ports talking to cisco kit (3600s) using a roll-over cable. I've also got them talking to Foundry switches using the same roll-over cable with an adaptor using the pinout below.
