I've seen tcpdump ported to HP-UX. I've also seen problems like this
historically traced back to a bad attribute cache on the HP. Try mounting the
filer with the -noac option on HP and see if it addresses the issue. If it
doesn't, proceed with getting a network trace from the client.
Attribute cache corruption would make directory listing changes not show up,
but if an existing file is modified, closed, and still looks like the
unmodified version, then it's not attribute caching. It's something else, and
mounting noac likely won't help.
