There is a tape drive compatibility matrix here

which indicates that F700-series filers require HVD.

you must use fast-wide differential SCSI drives and not single ended drives on an F700-series filer. The compatibility matrix indicates the F840 supports both FWD-HVD and LVD-SE, except for DLT7000 drives.
