hi,
Type bit scan done on vol
The message is part of the inode file upgrade scan that generally occurs after the filer is upgraded to a new major Data ONTAP release, or after WAFL_check is run.
"Type bit scan" messages are informative only and can be ignored.

(Running ONTAP 6.3.3)
After running wafliron on a volume, the filer generates messages like:
Wed Aug 27 19:39:31 BST [wafl_lopri:info]: Volume CUS, wafliron completed. Wed Aug 27 19:39:31 BST [wafl_filesystem_sca:info]: Starting block type initialization on volume CUS ... Thu Aug 28 14:58:41 BST [wafl_lopri:info]: Type bit scan done on vol CUS.
This process seems to take a lot longer than the wafliron proper, and uses a significant amount of disk I/O while it is going on. Can anyone give a technical explanation of what this "Type bit scan" is doing?
