I prefer it too, but that's not a good argument for it.
You can create a snapshot with "snap create" at any time (or, for example, "dump" will create one if it needs to), whichever of
snap sched VOLNAME 0 vol options VOLNAME nosnap on
you have used. Both of them disable only *automatic* snapshots.
