Best bet here is to open a case, but *in general* this occurs something happens in the initial SnapMirror handshake. It could be a network drop, it could be a really busy filer that didn't respond in time, it could be other things. Tech Support may be able to examine your logs and see if something else was going on at the time. It's not really possible to tell from just the message, however.

Async snapmirror relationship between FAS3050 and R200. Snapmirrors starting failing one day - They have been set up for a year or more and ran without issue. Now, sometimes they complete, sometimes they appear to "hang". Ontap 7.0.4P9 on both source and dest.
What could this error indicate?
"Error in snapmirror sync mode negotiation"
