It may not be a NetApp issue but more like a WinXP or Win2K SP4 issue. I saw a post in windows newsgroup (microsoft.public.win2000.file_system, microsoft.public.windowsnt.dfs) recently, and the reply from MSFT was "We are checking out on this issue and will reply to you soon."

Actually that is exactly what I am doing. Unfortunately some combination
of
the NetApp and the Windows DFS is causing a problem.
It looks something like this:
\ccis-windows\net\myhome is the home directory for each user. This is provided via DFS from the domain controllers. From DFS myhome points to \filer\CIFS.HOMEDIR.
If I point directly at \filer\CIFS.HOMEDIR then it does the right thing
but
the user has to manually refresh the view to see new files or for deleted files to disappear.

I'm not sure to understand your problem, but since you use CIFS.HOMEDIR mechanism, why don't you set an home directory for each user in the Active Directory, and then use Group policy feature to redirect my Documents to
the
home dir ???
