netapp support advised me to use the disk_remove_label command to remove the disk labels of a couple of new disks which decided to insert themselves into a new and unused vol. however, my 5.3D2 ontap does not seem to know the disk_remove_label command. is this correct? or is there another command to remove the disk label?

Michael,
Use the disk_erase_label command, you will be able to find this command under rc_toggle_basic. You should be able to use the 'vol destroy' command to destroy these unwanted volumes though. Either one should accomplish what you are trying to do, turn these drives into spares.
