I have occasionally found the need to recover a directory from snapshots back to the on-line volume. When I recover with copy or tar or rsync(my favorite, now), there is an additional disk space usage that can be inconvenient when directory is large. It can even block the recovery when volume is filled with a snap of the data we wish to recover.
I have asked for a fast recovery that might just restore blocks from a snapshot to an active volume. The blocks could still be in snapshot, but be the same blocks and not new blocks.
Is there any interest in this? It seems doable.
