Got a weird problem. I have a 740 and two 760's. Right now the 40 is
plugged into a 3com gigabit switch. But when I move it to the new HP procurve switch it does not come up. The really weird thing is I can move either of my 760s over there and they work great.
How is that weird, when you say later:
The 760 does not have anything in the rc for ethernet since it is not in
service yet.
If they aren't using the ethernet, doesn't it make sense?
Or are you saying on the 740 that the *filer* doesn't come up, not just the ethernet port? If so, please describe exactly what you see on the console during the boot process?
Is there something really different about the 40's and 60's for ethernet
config?
Could it be using the older Gigabit ethernet controller, and having problems with autonegotiation? Please refer to the "ifconfig" section in your reference manual and try forcing negotiation with "1000fx" instead of "auto" and trying various combinations of flowcontrol.
Also make sure the port on the HP procurve is full duplex and configured for the same flowcontrol.
