we've had good luck with storagetek 9740s (though their bigger libraries may be more than you need) running dlt7000 drives. the 8000s seem like not enough bang for the bucks you pay over the cost of a 7000.
Huh? with Overland, the jukeboxes with the DLT 8000's were the same price as the 7000's. Don't know who was pricing things for you. We went with the 8000 because it WAS the same price as a 7000.
Oh, and to clarify, other then the slight incompatability issues with tapes written with a DLT 4000 drive we're happy with the Overland Data 810s. It's nice to get so much more per tape (it offsets the high cost of the tapes ;p )
