Hi Nicholas,

The maxdirsize default is 1% of the systems physical memory. We have millions of files in one directory (NFS)and increased the maxdirsize (nearly doubled). The maxdirsize should not be greater than 3% of the filers systems physical memory! Then you run in lots of problems and all protocolls are affected. We bought a new Filer with more RAM and split the Million Files (38 Mio.!) into subdirectories ;)
You can check the current size with "slist PATH" (e.g. PATH = /vol1/.....)

Maybe I'm just being an idiot, but I couldn't seem to find best practices that describe max directory depth and size. I know anecdotally directories shouldn't be larger than 10mb (the directory itself, not the contents) but I can't seem to find an official best practice guide that has these. Can anyone point me to the right doc?
Thanks in advance, Nick _______________________________________________ Toasters mailing list Toasters@teaparty.net http://www.teaparty.net/mailman/listinfo/toasters
