Why is that safer? Seems to me that if you've got the root vol mounted, you might as well have rsh access.

It can be a little safer if you run the script from a safe machine that has the filer:/vol/root/etc mounted, so that you can put the safe machine name in .rhosts, run the script, then remove .rhosts.
