The last remark of Steve is correct. There are no authentication problems with XP when you uses a DC. It works fine.

This is netapp bug 58190 and should be fixed in a later release.
We are running a patched release that has this bug fixed -- 6.1.1R2P1D1
You should probably open a case and talk to the support folks. I doubt that you want to install this just because we did. It may not even be available for download anymore.
We noticed that after we upgraded that folks running W2000 without service pack 1 could no longer login to CIFS using unix auth and clear text passwords. When W2000 first came out it had a bug and netapp reverse engineered ONTAP to work. Then service pack 1 came out and fixed the bug, so ONTAP had to be fixed again. For awhile ONTAP would work with W2000 with or without SP1 installed. But it looks like now you MUST have SP1 installed. Again, this is ONLY when using unix passwd authentication on the filer, i.e., workgroup login with clear text passwords. I believe CIFS auth via a DC works fine across the board.
