TSM 5.5+ allows you to make back up copy pools of NDMP data but I do not believe you can do simultaneous writes to the primary and copy storage pools. The TSM server does not actually handle the writes to tape you define a data mover from the filer to the tape device.

George,
You may be able to do this with IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) as it supports "simultaneous write" to multiple backup media (up to 10 copies).
TSM does support NDMP backup, but I don't know if it supports simultaneous write from an NDMP source - but I don't see why it wouldn't...
In this arrangement the tape drives would need to be connected to the TSM server - not the Filer - and the NDMP data would traverse the LAN before being written to disk and/or multiple tapes.
Of course, this means changing your backup software. But TSM is good. :)

Hello, I haven't checked with Netapp yet, but would anyone here know if it is possible to have a ndmp backup going to two tape drives , thus creating a duplicate copy ?
I have a dual port HBA for the tape drive(s) on a FAS3040 head with DOT 7.2.2. The drives are IBM LTO3s and the backup software is NetBackup version 6.0MP4.
I would like to add a second tape drive on the the HBA and do the in-line tape copy rather then duplicating the data at a later time.
