It did happend : AirbusA320 with a strong enought system able to take in charge navigation computation was able to fly w/ 2 pilots instead of 3.
But I won't disagree w/ you when you say nfs is enought simple today, but we don't have same needs as others could I must admit that NFS codding hadn't changed deeply for a long time and, honestly, perhaps 70% of whole enhencments (of what i figured out) could be really usefull : think about - permanent export with -p switch, - new security level feature at user level w/ kerberos (nfs is finally able to equal CIFS user level security check - at the share/export level, not filesystem), - and what about nfs v4.
