If anyone has good experience or knowledge of how Mac OS X (particularly Panther) does NFS attr caching, or how to tweak it, I'd like to hear from you.
After a wholesale upgrade of most of our Macs to Panther recently, network traces show subsequent getattr calls go all the way from the client to the toaster if they are separated in time by anything more than a few milliseconds. Needless to say, this is now burying some of our toasters (on one 960 at a rate of 40-70,000 ops/s).
Thank goodness NetApp's caching works.
Until next time...
