You using CIFS heavily Graham?
Not yet, but i will be. My tech support guy alerted me a few days ago to upgrade from 5.1 to 5.1.D3 (which i think is basically the same as 5.1R1) We will be using mixed volumes pretty much exclusively.
I haven't seen the same problems you have, but we are still testing the small things - i haven't put it through any stress tests yet - sounds like you have.
I thought I had done enough testing as i had moved some stuff ~500MB and 4 users to the toaster (The sysadmins incl myself & my boss!), but the problems only hit when I moved 3GB over to the toaster and 40 users connected within a few mins.
Please keep us up to date with your problems - i'd really like to know if the software upgrade fixes them.
I back running with snapshots & quotas on 5.1D3 and even managed a backup.
I ran wacky on the filer as recommended by support, but it didn't make any changes to the file system.
Fingers crossed it's ok now.
