I didn’t really find anything. I looked at the VMWare SQL best practices, and there is little to no reference for NFS, but there is some for VMFS. Maybe Justin Parisi can chime in on the NFS if he’s watching (and willing. ☺ ). I am guessing if you use snapcenter for SQL, it will properly align and meet NA best practices for SQL. Here was a good video on Sql SnapCenter.. Sorry, couldn’t help.

Steve, Thank you! I have seen the doc as well. My question is how this is applicable to NFS based VMs There is not lun here. The vmware datastore is on NFS volume. VMWARE to Netapp NFS is 4k, right?

Create LUNs with SnapDrive for Windows or SnapCenter whenever possible. If you want to create LUNs with DiskManager or other tools, make sure that allocation unit size is set to 64K for partitions during formatting the LUNs.

What is the best practice for formating a NTFS partion to be used for MS SQL data drive on the VMWARE VM
that is residing on NFS (not VMFS or RDM) datastore.
Is it still 4K? MS recommendations are for larger size (64K)
NFS datastore!
