Hey Manny, I _highly_ recommended using "Cricket" over mrtg, it's essentially the second release of mrtg.
It also makes use of RRDTOOL (round robin database) to storage stats..and renders graphics on the fly (without storing them). It's much faster as well.....For examples and config trees, check out the "Cricket Contributed Software Repository":
