this question gets asked from time to time. i have an archive which i maintain, purely informally. i'm not going to go to great effort to get it searchable, but i could certainly make it available from a simple web interface. is there interest in this? are there any strong objections?
InReference will archive a mailing list if you ask them to, and make it searchable. They are supported by advertising on the search engine, I believe. The Lynx Developers use it for their list.
