Thanks to all who replied and provided very helpful information (I even received a call -- scary! :))
Looks like we'll probably lean towards a 2000 series based solution -- at least to compare to whatever other options are presented. NetApp sales has contacted me so I will work with them for the time being. Thanks to everyone else who expressed interest.
