I have set up CarrierScan and it has been running since April. I have it running on NT 4 not 2000 but I have never put the CSS servers IP address in my Host or Equiv file.
What I did was create an account in my domain, placed that account in the Backup Operators group locally. I enabled VSCAN on the Filer then during the install of CSS it asked for the Filer (host) and I entered the Filer. I needed to tweek some setting within CSS for what I wanted but other then that there was no real major changes to files (host, equive or usermap.cfg). Syamantec and NetApp are still working on some open issues I have but overall I think it is a good product. One suggestion for anyone implementing CSS would be to set the following hidden option.
vscan options mandatory_scan off
If you do not set this and lose the scanning functionality it will lock all the files (doing SCANREPAIR). Everyone coming into the Filer via CIFS (volume, tree, etc) will get a message to the affect that there is a network error when trying to access files. Of course this is an erroneous error which I have also spoken to Symantec and NetApp engineering about.
If anyone has any questions I can help with feel free to contact me. Seth
