The 5500 is not too bad... But yes, I believe Cisco is wrestling with this very issue. Not everybody will be able to buy a cisco 12k and get the gigabit blades for it.

The price-point for the prominet was somewhere around $40k for 4 gigabit, 40 100mbit ports (and 3 power supplies). I think this is comparable to the cisco pricing (discounts varying). The list for the Foundry equipment (from their press release) was making it look like a 8 slot chassis with the management module and a 4 port blade would alone be $40k.
Perhaps you are getting a good discount with them... :)
