It depends on your ONTAP version. I had to upgrade our 740 recently from 5.3.6r1 to 6.1.1r2 to allow me to delete these annoying snapshots. Everynow and again a snapshot_for_backup would not delete itself and under 5.3.6r1 the only solution was to reboot or upgrade the ONTAP.
