Duncan,
Thanks for the post. It made me double check with Sun on this. One of my Unix admins (since retired) researched putting one of these L280's on his Tru64 Alpha box some time ago. His research came up the the HP version LVD to which I was going on. But after seeing your post and calling Sun, sure enough they verified HVD.... Ick....
So my game plan now is to rewire a dual DLT8000 (Sun L40, yes also OEM'd from HP) routing one of the DLT8000's (LVD I'm pretty damn sure) to the Filer and dedicate it as a NDMP drive. I didn't want to cohabitate NDMP tapes with non-NDMP tapes in the 40 slot stacker but I HAVE to direct attach to the filer or life will get LOOONG here.
I'll migrate the backups formally done by the DLT 8000 to these L280 DLT 7000's attached to a dual processor E3000 I've got sitting around. Hey its the fastest thing I've to that has an Sbus in it. :-\
Thanks for the heads up!

Rob,
Oops - the manual for this library tells me it has a *differential* SCSI interface which I'm almost certain requires an HVD or (old-style) diff adapter on the host. It probably won't work with an LVD adapter in the filer.
Limited specs are in the Sun systems handbook at: http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/L280/L280.html
and the manual is online at: http://sunsolve.sun.com/data/805/805-3958/pdf/805-3958-10.pdf http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/L280/L280.html
See page 1-2 (p26 of the PDF) which says "SCSI-2 high density wide differential".
The L280 is an oem from HP (model 718) who offered it with either SCSI type, so if you've got a real HP one you might be lucky.
Otherwise you're stuck. I've never had much luck with SCSI converters, but others may disagree. NetApp don't seem to offer a differential adapter according to the parts finder on NOW.
