You do not need the priv set advanced commands.
In Data ONTAP 7.2 TOE cards are supported but TOE function is turned off. In Data ONTAP 7.2.1 and beyond TOE is turned on for iSCSI, NFS, and CIFs traffic.
This is handled by ONTAP. You don't need to use any commands. It is automatic. ONTAP determines when it is appropriate to turn on/off TOE function.

Hi Todd,
I have a 6070 with a Quadport-1000BT-NIC and a Dualport-1000BSx-iSCSI-Card here for testing purposes. With DOT 7.2 I did not get it running. With 7.2.1 it is possible to transfer data over the TOE-NIC, but I cannot tell if there really happens any TOE.
Documentation for the TOE is rare. I got some from our NetApp SE but it's buggy. This is, what I found out that works with DOT 7.2.1:
- priv set advanced; toe status
- options ip.tcp.offload.protocol.enable
- options ip.tcp.offload.protocol.nfs
- options ip.tcp.offload.protocol.cifs
- options ip.tcp.offload.protocol.iscsi
"toe status" and the options are telling the different (e.g. all ip.tcp.offload options tell that toe is on but "toe status" tells it's off).
For me, TOE is not ready to use in a productional environment yet. It cannot be used with vifs. NetApp told me that it will need DOT 7.2.2 to support vifs ...

Anyone using a TOE card in a 6070?
Can anyone point me to any doc on the NOW site for it (specs, release requirements, options, etc.)? NOW search blows chunks. :(
Any internal NetApp folks ever benchmarked it and can share the results with me under NDA? E.g., http://www.spec.org/sfs97r1/results/res2006q2/sfs97r1-20060425- 00257.html
Does *T*OE show performance improvement with NFS over *U*DP?
Until next time...
