Quickie from someone in the last stages of speccing and sourcing filer solutions... has anyone got any experience of the Dell PowerVault NAS systems? They look very much like re-badged NetApp F720-F760s, with one or two small differences.
What are the differences? I never got to see one. I was told they wouldn't run without CIFS support, but I took that to mean they wouldn't be sold without a CIFS license. Do you suppose they will take any future Netapp SW releases?
Anyone have any points either pro or con these systems, versus the NetApp equivalents?
When Dell was trying to sell them to a former client of mine, the argument they made was "They're 100% netapp boxes with our badge, but we buy more disks than Netapp and can force manufacturers to get them to us cheaper, so they'll cost less"
Netapp of course said, "Buy them if you want, but don't expect Dell support to be worth anything at all on the UNIX or mixed use environment."
