Hi Phillip,
with the 6000er series there is no option between hardware-based and software-based disk ownership.
You have to use software-based one (afaik).
So removing the ownership of the disks will result in loosing disks. You will be able to see them with "disk show -n" which shows all unassigned disks and then reassign them with "disk assign all -o [filername]".
Be carefull to use this commands in cluster configuration! I have never tried but i suppose it to be possible to assgin ownership from partner-disks to a filer.
You can also use "disk assign [diskname] -o [filername]" which gives you control but will take some minutes :D

Do you guys have much experience of disk ownership. On our FAS940 clusters, disk ownership was hardware based.

Despite reading the below Netapp doc, I'm no closer to making a decision
as to whether to retain the disk ownership option or remove it from my system.
