Were we to provide distinct separate RAID volumes, made up of one or more RAID groups, would people want:
a single pool of hot spares, so that if any disk dies, if there's a hot spare, reconstruction can start immediately?
a pool of hot spares per RAID group?
a pool of hot spares per volume?
some other assignment of hot spares?
for preference, (1) - easiest to configure, most appliance-like! if i were seeking anything on top of that, it would be the ability to reserve a hot-spare to a particular group and/or volume, so that if i had one especially-important group or volume, i could be sure it would always have a hot spare.
