A couple of quick thoughts:
When installing CarrierScan, make sure to select CarrierScan RPC during the install process. If you just accept all of the defaults, it is NOT selected and the AV scan machine won't be able to "see" the filer.
And, as has already been mentioned, make sure that the service account is a member of the filer's local Backup Operators group.
