Is there anyway to configure a filer so that one does not have to use the root account for NDMP operations? It is against all generally acceptable guidelines to allow root access to a system over a network. Any software package that would be used to perform NDMP backups would have to pass the root id and password over the network. In the case of some products it is in plaintext (SyncSort BackupExpress uses plaintext) thus making and entire filer system vulnerable.
