I have an F-740 with 3 FC-8 shelves and 1 FC-9 shelf, chained togethor. The documentation stated that I should put the FC-8's first and this was confirmed to me by NetApp tech support. I have had no problems with this configuration and it has been up and running for almost a year. One small thing that I did was that I don't trust auto-termination. This is not to say that I think NetApp did it wrong, I just don't trust it in general. I always use terminators on everything so therefore my FC-9 shelf has a terminator on it.
